2013 China Scholarship Council Study-in-China Annual Conference Held in China Pharmaceutical University

March 21, 2013: The 2013 Chinese Government Scholarship Study-in-China Annual Conference was organized by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and held in China Pharmaceutical University (CPU) Xuanwumen Campus. The one-day conference saw more than 400 delegates from China�� 18 provincial-level education commissions and 202 universities in 29 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the nation with government scholarship programs for international students. Among the presenters were Ms. Jinghui Liu (Chief Secretary of CSC), Mr. Jianxue Sheng (Deputy Director of the International Department of the Ministry of Education, MOE), Mr. Xiaochang Ding (Deputy Director of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education), Ms. Lulu Tian (the Director of the Study-in-China Division under the International Department of MOE), Mr. Yanguang Li and Ms. Lin Chen (Director and Deputy Director of the Study-in-China Division under CSC). CPU President Prof. Maode Lai, Vice President Prof. Guangji Wang, as well as the directors in charge of CPU�� Office of International Exchange and Cooperation also attended the conference. The conference was hosted by Mr. Yanguang Li.

CPU President Prof. Maode Lai, as the leading presenter, gave a heartfelt speech of welcome and summarized the university�� achievements made in its discipline development, student cultivation, scientific research and international exchange. Mr. Xiaochang Ding, the Deputy Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, addressed the conference on the Internationalization of Higher Education in Jiangsu.

Ms. Jinghui Liu, the Chief Secretary of CSC gave an official report on the development and achievements of the CSC Study-in-China programs in 2012, in which CSC provided scholarships for 28,768 international students from 184 countries and regions studing in 229 universities around China, with the number of students increasing by 11.9% compared with the year before. Mr. Jianxue Sheng, Deputy Director of MOE International Department, spoke of the trends, environment and China�� future planning of studying in China in his address.

President Maode Lai of CPU also held in the morning a special seminar, in which Prof. Yueqing Gu, the Director of CPU Office of International Exchange and Coorperation, gave a special report to Deputy Director Jianxue Sheng on CPU�� efforts to further promote its internationalization level, receiving positive comments from Deputy Director Sheng with encouraging remarks on the use of the central government�� favorable policies.

A Q&A session in the morning and a training presentation in the afternoon were hosted by Director Yanguang Li and Deputy Director Lin Chen of CSC Study-in-China Division. A medical education seminar was attended by Ms. Lulu Tian the Director of the Study-in-China Division under the International Department of MOE, together with delegates from medical universities.

CSC authorized CPU to be the hosting institution of its 2013 annual conference, showing its acknowledgement of CPU�� achievements in its education of international students. CPU will continue to follow the state�� underlying study-in-China strategy of ��xpanding the scale, optimizing the structure, improving the quality and regulating the management��in its admission, education and administration of international students.
