Research Project conducted by Vice Principal Professor Kong Lingyi won the Second Class Award in 2015 Annual National Science and Technology Awarding Convention

       Jan. 8, 2016, the Great Hall of the People observed the grand opening of National Science and Technology Awarding Convention hosted by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, which aimed at honoring those groups and individuals who had made significant contributions to Chinese scientific and technological development in 2015. President Xi Jinping and other party and state leaders attended the convention to present the prizes for the awarded. 2015 Annual National Science and Technology Award honored 295 achievements and 7 foreign science and technology experts in total, including 42 National Natural Science Awards (1 for the first class award, 41 for the second class award), 66 National Technical Innovation Awards (1 for the first class award, 65 for the second class award), 187 National Science and Technology Progress Awards (3 for special award, 17 for the first award, 167 for the second class award), and 7 International Science and Technology Cooperation Awards of the People’s Republic of China for foreign scientists.

In the convention, the research achievement with our vice principal Professor Kong Lingyi as the first consummator and China Pharmaceutical University as the independent completion unit, namely “The Research and Application of the New Technology to Separate the Active Ingredients from Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Medicine”, was awarded the second class prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award. As a representative of the prize winners, Professor Kong Lingyi was received courteously by President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Keqiang and other party and state leaders.

After twenty years’ efforts, the research group led by Professor Kong Lingyi produced a new technology to combine series of chromatography and spectrum technologies to conduct preparative separation of chemical compositions in Chinese traditional medicine and natural medicine, with which they separated more than 5,000 chemical compounds, discovered more than 600 new chemical compounds, and established a compound library of Chinese traditional medicine and natural medicine—two active compounds in the library have been listed as candidate drugs for one of the National Major Science and Technology Special Projects, Significant New Drug Development. The group has published 116 SCI papers, including 35 on international leading journals, acquired 8 patents for Invention and 3 provincial science and technology awards. This achievement actively promotes the research on the material basis of Chinese traditional medicine and the production of new drugs, promotes the research level of the chemistry discipline of Chinese traditional medicine, and makes a significant contribution to the modernization and internationalization of Chinese traditional medicine. Among those awarded the National Science and Technology Progress Award in recent years, projects completed independently by a single unit as this one are in a small number.

In recent years, our university, focusing on the developing direction in pharmaceutical career and industry, has been vigorously advancing collaborative innovation and comprehensively motivating the vitality in scientific research. CPU has produced a series of crucial core technologies in pharmacy field, promoted the transitional upgrade of pharmaceutical industry, and laid a solid foundation for the university’s transitional development. During “The 12th Five-Year Plan”, the university has received 2 national awards and 19 provincial awards (including 9 first class awards). The second class prize of National Science and Technology Progress represents the outcome of the university’s continuing efforts and abundant accumulations in pharmaceutical research and manifests its strength in and influence upon pharmaceutical scientific research.
