Professor Hu Zhibi (1934- )

Prof. Hu is an expert in Biotechnology of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She graduated from East-China College of Pharmacy (now CPU) in 1956, graduated from NanjingCollege of Pharmacy (now CPU) with her master’s degree in 1959 and was awarded Doctor of Science in University of Tuebingen. She was elected one of the first academicians of the Medicine and Public Health Department of Chinese Academy  of Engineering.

 

She has been mainly engaged in biotechnology research of traditional Chinese medicine. With the application of modern cell biotechnology, she was the first one in the world who managed to cultivate the digitalis cell line with the highest conversion rate, known as the “Hu Cells”. She applied some high technology such as modern molecular biology and plant genetic engineering to the research of traditional Chinese medicine, and won eight national level awards, including second class prizes of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award(1996, 2001) and first class prize of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China.
