Professor Yuan Chengye (1924- )

Prof. Yuan is an organic chemistry expert. He graduated from the National College of Pharmacy (now CPU) in 1948 and was conferred a master’s degree in Science in the former Soviet Union. He was a research fellow at Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry of ChineseAcademy of Sciences from 1956 to 1960. He was elected academician of ChineseAcademy of Sciences in 1997.


His early studies focused on amino acid and peptide synthesis. In 1958 he established and led the research team of nuclear fuel extraction agent, which met the urgent needs of the defense industry of China. He has published more than 300 academic papers and won six national level awards, including second prize of National Natural Science, second prizes of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, third-class prize of State Invention Award.
