  • Dr Meiling Lu is an associate professor and master's supervisor who received her Ph.D. in 2012 through a joint program between China Pharmaceutical University and the University of Texas Medical Branch. Her research is at the forefront of multidisciplinary science, combining X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy to explore several key areas:

    (1) CRISPR-Cas Systems: She investigates the structure and mechanism of novel CRISPR-Cas effector complexes, with a focus on their potential applications in gene editing across both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.

    (2) Bacterial Defense Mechanisms: Her work includes studying various bacterial defense systems and their interactions, aiming to uncover new antibacterial strategies.

    (3) Drug Target Proteins: She also focuses on the mechanism of drug-target proteins and their inhibitors using protein crystal X-ray diffraction.

    Professor Lu's research contributes significantly to the understanding of complex biological systems and the development of innovative therapeutic strategies.
