Research Summary

ProfessorWu is currently concentrating on the researches ofunderstanding the fundamental mechanisms and pathways involved in production of antibioticsand other bioactive natural products in bacterium, with aparticular emphasis onStreptomyces. On the other hand, the biosynthesis and bio-production of drugs and/or intermediates using enzymological and microbiological technique isanother field oftheexpertise for him.He recentlystudied on the biosynthetic pathway and regulatorymechanism of thiopeptideantibiotics including nosiheptide andnocathiacin, whichdisplay excellent antibacterial activities against multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens. In addition, He builta chem-ezymatictechnique for the green synthesis ofrosuvastatin calcium (Crestor) by a unique diketoreductase.
