Research Summary

Professor HOU’s research focuses on thebiomedical signal processing, especially on the analysis of heart rate variability and electroencephalograph signals.

.  Based on the complex network theories, she recently published a paper entitled " Visibility graph analysis of very short-term heart rate variability during sleep", which proposed that rapid eye movement (REM) sleep could be a potential risk factor for adverse cardiovascular event, especially in males, older individuals, and people who are overweight. Additionally, an apparent influence of gender, aging, and obesity on sleep was demonstrated in healthy adults, which may be helpful for establishing expected patterns in different populations.
