Good News! Pharmacology and Toxicology Discipline Areas Entered into the Top 1‱ of ESI Worldwide

 On January 9, the latest ESI (Essential Science Indicators) data released by Clarivate Analytics showed that Pharmacology and Toxicology of China Pharmaceutical University (CPU) entered the top 1‱ of the global rankings in the discipline of Pharmacology and Toxicology, and ranked 13th in the world. This is a milestone breakthrough in the process of promoting the construction of a world-class research university with pharmacological characteristics, marking that the discipline of pharmacology has officially entered the ranks of the world's top disciplines.


ESI is one of the most important evaluation tools commonly used in the world to evaluate the international academic level and influence of universities, academic institutions, countries and regions. According to statistics, there are 47 subject areas in 27 universities in China, and 6 subject areas in 4 universities in Jiangsu have entered into the top 1‱ of ESI in the world. Our university is the only university directly under the Ministry of Education that has one of the ESI 1‱ subjects in the field of medicine, and it is also the first general university of medicine that has one of the ESI 1‱ subjects in China.


In recent years, the university has deepened the reform of the integration of education, science and technology talent system and mechanism, taken the new quality productivity as the traction, innovated the talent cultivation mode, strengthened the organized scientific research, accurately attracted and nurtured talents, and pushed the level of academic discipline construction to a new level.Till 2025 January, the university has 11 disciplines entering the top one percent of ESI in the world, which are Pharmacology and Toxicology, Chemistry, Clinical Medicine, Biology and Biochemistry, Material Science, Agricultural Science, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Biochemistry, Materials Science, Agricultural Science, Neuroscience and Behavior, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Immunology, Environment/Ecology, and Botany and Zoology. Since the “14th Five-Year Plan”, the university has added six new subject areas into the top one percent of ESI globally.


In the next stage, the university will focus on key scientific issues and advanced technologies in various disciplines, focus on the direction of cutting-edge fields, continue to promote the integration of industry and education, the integration of science and education, and the integration of medicine and education, coordinate the resources of the whole university, continuously optimize the layout of disciplines, strengthen the cross-fertilization of disciplines and deepen the connotation construction of disciplines, and take multiple measures to promote the cause of the whole university to achieve high-quality and leapfrog development.
